| Mission Advisory Committee Appointed |
| Release Date: 09/02/2003 |
LOUISVILLE—Nine Kentucky Baptist leaders have been appointed to serve on an advisory committee that will help the Kentucky Baptist Convention implement recommendations from a Mission Study Committee report adopted earlier this year.
The report, presented by a special committee of the Kentucky Baptist Mission Board, established goals and objectives for the 2,400-church organization to bring a sharper focus on evangelism, missions, leadership training, church growth, networking and the organization's relationships with its agencies and institutions. The Mission Study Committee also recommended that an advisory committee be appointed to assist KBC Executive Director Bill Mackey as he leads the Kentucky Baptist Convention to achieve the goals and objectives.
The Mission Advisory Committee, appointed by KBC President Paul Badgett, the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville, will also monitor progress as the implementation continues, and is responsible for reporting back to the KBC on or before Jan. 1, 2010. Committee members will serve a term of three years and may be reappointed.
The committee includes Steve Ayers, pastor of Hillvue Heights Church, Bowling Green; Paul Chitwood, pastor of First Baptist Church, Somerset; Dorothy Crace, member of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church, Ashland; Les Hollon, pastor of St. Matthews Baptist Church, Louisville; Kevin McCallon, pastor of First Baptist Church, Paducah; Ava Bingham Reynolds, member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Louisville; Rick Robbins, director of missions for the Northern Kentucky Baptist Association, Erlanger; and Chris White, pastor of First Baptist Church, Carrollton. Charles Barnes, a member of Hurstbourne Baptist Church, Louisville will chair the committee.
All but one of the advisory committee members – Dorothy Crace of Ashland – served on the original Mission Study Committee that brought the report.
The Mission Study Committee was appointed in 2002 to review the changing ministry needs of Kentucky Baptist Convention churches, Kentucky Baptist Convention ministry objectives, leadership and organization requirements, and financial and other resources.
