KBC Seminar to Help Churches Improve Assimilation
Release Date: 04/07/2008

LOUISVILLE – Continuing to emphasize the importance of assimilation within its churches, the Kentucky Baptist Convention will host the “Beyond the First Visit” seminar on May 22.

Church leaders seeking to retain visitors and members in their churches will benefit from the seminar, which is based on concepts presented in Beyond the First Visit, a popular church assimilation book released in 2006 by Baker Books. Gary L. McIntosh, the book’s author, will lead the seminar.

The event will run from 10 a.m.– 3 p.m. and will be held at the Kentucky Baptist Building in Louisville.

“Churches think they are friendly to guests, but that’s not always the case,” said Steve Rice, discipleship and assimilation director for the KBC. “We want to help church leaders evaluate and improve the way their church attracts, welcomes and connects newcomers.”

According to Rice, McIntosh will review concepts such as how to keep people in church and how people are coming to faith in Christ in today’s culture.

McIntosh currently serves as president of the McIntosh Church Growth Network and is the editor of both the Church Growth Network newsletter and the Journal of the American Society for Church Growth.

The cost to register for the event is $25 per person, which includes lunch and all seminar materials. For more information, or to register, visit www.kybaptist.org/beyond, call 502-489-3581 or 866-489-3581, or e-mail discipleship@kybaptist.org.
