Knot Tying

Scoring and Judging the Competition
  • When the group arrives have everyone will fill out a score card and keep it with him.
  • Anyone needing to practice or become familiar with the knot to be tied may go to the practice area.
  • When a participant is ready to compete, he hands over his score card at the competition table to the Time Keeper and waits for instructions.
  • The rope is arranged on the table in a "U" shape with the bottom of the "U" facing the participant.
  • The instructions are for the time to begin as soon as the rope is touched; the knot is tied, and returned to the table. When the rope is returned to the table, the time stops.
  • The knot will be checked for accuracy and if it is correct, the score will be noted on the card and, if it is the fastest time, it will be kept and recorded on the scoreboard.
  • If it is not the fastest time, the card is returned to the participant.
  • Participants may better their time or the fastest time after everyone in the group has tried once, and as time allows.
  • If group is larger than the room can accommodate, sub-groups may be created with their time in the room shortened for practicing and competing.
  • Ties in each division are broken in a tie-breaker.
Awarding the Winners Certificates
  • When everyone in each division has finished, the card with the fastest time in that division is kept back, so there is a possibility of four winners.
  • Only the Head Judge will sign the certificates only in the section for the signature.
  • The certificates and the score cards are brought to the general meeting of the Congress and the announcement is made of the winners and their time.
  • The score cards and certificates will be completed and signed by the Regional Director and presented to the winners at the Congress.
