Mission Speak Out

Purpose
Challengers Mission Speak Out involves Challengers in mission awareness by providing an opportunity to speak publicly for mission involvement.
The following guidelines for national competition are intended to give uniformity to the event. Each state may make their additional requirements.

Entrance Specifications
To enter the state contest a young man must apply with the state Brotherhood / Men’s Ministry department for details.
  • Each participant must submit a application form with his Challengers leader’s signature to the state office.
  • Each participant must submit a transcript and a of each speech must be submitted to their Regional Coordinator at the Regional Congress in which they choose to compete. Their speech will be video taped at the Regional Congress for submission to the State office.
  • Transcripts and videotapes of regional winners will be sent to the State Brotherhood Department where a state winner will be chosen.
Qualifications
  • Participants must be active members of a Challengers group. Participants must be members of a Southern Baptist church.
  • Participants must be in the 7th to 12th grade. Applications must be signed by the Challenger’s leader and his pastor.
  • Participants will compete in two levels: Challengers 1 (Grades 7-9) and Challengers 2 (Grades 10-12)be selected by their state.
Judging
Participants will be judged and graded on a basis of 100 points.
  • Content – 50 points
  • Composition – 25 points
  • Delivery – 25 points
The transcripts and videos of all regional level winners will be submitted to the State Brotherhood so that state winners will be determined.
Awards
  • Regional Challengers I Winners will be awarded a full scholarship to Mission Adventure Camp.
  • Regional Challengers II Winners will be awarded a full scholarship to Mission Adventure Camp.
  • The state first place winners will be awarded the Challenger I or the Challengers II State Speak-Out Plaque.
  • First, second and third place winners at the state level also receive some funding for a mission project of his choice in Kentucky. Any cost beyond the award limit is the responsibility of the winner.
  • State Challengers II Winners will be awarded the Challenger II State Speak-Out Plaque and have the opportunity to compete on the national level for awards and college scholarship.
Speech Specifications
  • The speech should reflect the young man’s participation in the Challengers program. Examples should be given of how his involvement in Challengers affects the topic he is discussing.
  • The speech must be from five to seven minutes in length. Participants will be penalized for finishing over or under these time limits.
  • The speech must be the participant’s own composition. Proper credit must be given to all quoted materials.
  • Speak Out participants may choose from one of the topics listed below.

Share the importance of daily personal prayer and Bible study in developing a Christian lifestyle, and how these affect your mission involvement.
