| KBC Sends More Disaster Relief Teams Across Kentucky |
| Release Date: 02/08/2008 |
CECILIA – In addition to teams already working in Muhlenberg County, the Kentucky Baptist Convention is sending disaster relief volunteers to Cecilia, Brandenburg and Monroe County in response to severe damage from storms earlier this week.
According to Coy Webb, disaster relief associate for the KBC, a chainsaw team of 17 volunteers is currently working in Cecilia to clear debris and assist with cleanup. Additional teams are preparing for chainsaw work in Brandenburg as well as areas in Monroe County.
Webb said the duration of the relief effort has not yet been determined.
Kentucky Baptists are part of a larger network of Southern Baptist volunteers trained to respond to disasters by manning mass feeding operations, using chainsaws to clear downed trees and limbs, clear mud out of flooded homes and more.
Southern Baptist disaster relief volunteers work in conjunction with other organizations, such as the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Together, Southern Baptists compose the third largest relief organization in the United States.
