KBC Disaster Relief Responds to Kentucky Storms
Release Date: 02/06/2008

GREENVILLE – The Kentucky Baptist Convention has mobilized disaster relief volunteers in response to the severe storms that caused damage in Muhlenberg County and other areas of Kentucky on Feb. 5.

According to Coy Webb, disaster relief associate for the KBC, two teams of volunteers are working in Muhlenberg County to assess the damage and to assist with cleanup.

The teams, which include volunteers from Trigg and Christian counties, are working to determine what type of relief is needed and how long the effort will take, Webb said.

Those who wish to contribute to recovery efforts may send contributions to KBC, Dept. 5008, P.O. box 740041, Louisville, KY 40201-9976. Please note "disaster relief" or "tornado" in the check memo.

Contributions to the general Disaster Relief support fund may be made online here.

Kentucky Baptists are part of a larger network of Southern Baptist volunteers trained to respond to disasters by manning mass feeding operations, using chainsaws to clear downed trees and limbs, clear mud out of flooded homes and more.

Southern Baptist disaster relief volunteers work in conjunction with other organizations, such as the Salvation Army, the American Red Cross and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Together, Southern Baptists compose the third largest relief organization in the United States.
